Tutorial Workshop on Parameter Estimation for Biological Models

NC State University, July 28-31, 2016

Co-organizers: Andrea Arnold, Franz Hamilton, Alun Lloyd and Mette Olufsen.

Confirmed speakers include Tom Banks (NC State), Daniela Calvetti (Case Western), Marisa Eisenberg (University of Michigan), Kevin Flores (NC State), Ralph Smith (NC State), Hien Tran (NC State) and Hulin Wu (University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston).

New!: Final program for workshop: includes PDFs of presentations and videos of (most of) the talks.

This workshop is aimed at graduate students (and others) who have an interest in confronting mathematical models with biological data. Tutorials will cover estimation of model parameters and associated uncertainties, parameter identifiability, and uncertainty quantification. Lectures will be accompanied by hands-on computer exercises.

Individuals wishing to participate should contact Mette Olufsen. Financial support is available to support attendance of a limited number of United States student and postdoc participants. If you wish to request financial support please attach a copy of your CV to your email and ask your advisor to email a letter of recommendation to us. Full consideration will be given to applications (for participation and/or support) received by May 1st.

Suggested local hotels: The closest hotels to campus are the Doubletree Hilton and the Aloft Raleigh. Both are only a short walk from the workshop venue. More reasonably priced options are available, but are further from campus. One option is the Ramada Raleigh on Blue Ridge Road, near the university’s vet school. (A campus bus would run from the Ramada to main campus on Thursday and Friday, but some other arrangement would be needed for Saturday and Sunday, but we could help with that.)
